by Tom Piper, aJ MUG President
April Fool’s Day is over, my new MacBook Pro 17” with 500GB drive is fully operational, the legacy iMac G5 20” has gone to a wonderful home, and my pre-owned MacBook Pro 17” with armored case is looking for a new one. The legislature looks like they might find a fairly reasonable balance on budgets, which should keep my office the same. Our Mac investment at the office continues to reward us with quality, quantity, speed and efficiency. And, the Monarch butterflies have started their faithful Spring journey north from Mexico.
Membership is expanding now with over 63 members, well on our way to reaching the December goal of 100 appleJAC MUG members! The MacBasics classes with George Kopp are about to begin, and the iWork classes (with yours truly) will commence in September. The new SwapShop is up and running on the blog (see logo on left panel) to help our members find good deals and new opportunities. The “Made on a Mac” photo enhancement competition will be announced and explained at the next meeting (Greg Breuer), and DVD copies of the videotaped (Steve Archer) January, February, March and April meetings are now available from our Library (see Bruce Heerboth). Not only that, but we also have a team working on our logo and new aJ brochure . . . we have a lot going on to further enhance your education and enjoyment of our Mac user group.
Next meeting we will enjoy the third of three iLife ’09 presentations, focusing on the Music aspect with GarageBand. Our presenter will be the son of one of our aJ officers (Greg). Tim Breuer will demonstrate by showing how GarageBand can be used to create music, podcasts, soundeffects and so much more . . . this will be a night to remember and enjoy.
Last month, we enjoyed the second review of iLife ’09 with Video, specifically iMovie and iDVD. George Kopp described the many powerful tools in iMovie and iDVD, while Steve Mays illustrated some of the really cool green screen uses in iMovie, demonstrated in videos he’s created. The full schedule of topics for 2009 was discussed, including how to reach this year’s goal of 100 members through our “Member Get A Member” campaign. On a side note, Steve Archer’s Video Team needs more assistance with meeting videos (recording and editing), and Terry Larkin needs more people to join his Refreshments Team. Winners of the April door prizes were as follows:
- Bryan Coulter Photoshop CS4 (book)
- Larry Garver Apple Keyfob
- George Walling Photoshop CS at Your Fingertips
- Charlotte Hubbard Apple ballpoint pen
- Ed Brandt Apple retractable keyholder
- Ann Lane Logitech Harmony 676 TV controller
Don’t forget to mark your calendar for the regularly-scheduled appleJAC meeting on Tuesday, May 5, 2009. See you in the Sixth Grade Commons at Lewis and Clark Middle School . . . bring family, friends and new members . . . share the fun!
