My recent visit to Woodstock IL provided a great opportunity to preview some of Other World Computings (OWC) newest electronic devices, and I returned with the most wonderful portable RAID powerhouse on the market to share with you.
The Mercury Elite Pro Dual mini from OWC is the latest high-performance portable RAID. It includes dual-drive, USB 3.1 Gen 2 performance built into a portable, bus-powered form factor which is perfect drive for my demanding applications on the go. My unit is a 240GB solid state drive (SSD) which delivers blazingly fast performance and the flexibility I need to meet some of my most extreme workflow requirements for movies, photo manipulation, and advanced macOS testing.
Out of the box, the Dual mini includes two USB cables for ultimate connectivity (a USB-C to USB-C and a USB-A to USB-C) which works great with my new Touch Bar 15" MacBook Pro, or any USB-equipped Mac or PC that I might plug it into (which is when the included AC power supply might also be needed). The rugged aluminum chassis has been designed for near-silent fanless cooling which keeps my drives protected, cool and quiet everywhere I go. Sized at 1.1"H x 6.1"W x 5.7"L and weighing just under 1.5 lbs, it has a sturdy, solid feel with a quality finish.
This slimline, side-by-side configuration means this unit fits easily behind my laptop, as well as in my travel bag. The pair of 2.5" 120GB SSDs in my Mini can be replaced with either higher capacity SSDs or rotating hard drives. And because it's fully bus-powered, the Mercury Elite Pro Dual mini is the perfect solution to take with me wherever my laptop goes.
The Mercury Elite Pro Dual mini features easily user-selectable modes RAID 0 (blistering data transfer speeds up to 861MB/s) and RAID 1 (greater data redundancy from mirrored disks). Independent (address both drives individually) and SPAN (both drives combined sequentially) settings are also available for greater volume. The SET button is used in conjunction with the rotating selector arrow to setup one of these four states (any change from one state to another requires reformatting and replacement of the data).
My experience with this unit has been very rewarding, both in terms of storage and access speed. Repeated tests of read and write speeds were approaching two-thirds of that of the built-in SSDs in my MacBook Pro 15" TouchBar, which is quite impressive for a plug-in drive.

Or, if you want to include either rotating hard drives of 1TB-4TB, or solid state drives of 240GB-2TB, the prices are listed below:
