I have been an avid user of iCal for several years now, and still find myself irritated by some of the features. Now, with the Lion version out, my disappointment is even more extensive. I want a convenient calendar to meets my needs!
Fantastical from Flexibits is a great little calendaring tool that works with iCal, BusyCal, Entourage, or Outlook. I can even use Google Calendar or Yahoo! Calendar accounts: simply add them to iCal and I’m all set. This app is bringing smiles back to my daily posting and retrieval of due dates, appointments, and alarms.
Creating an new event with Fantastical is quick, easy, and fun by clicking the menu bar icon or pressing a customizable keyboard shortcut (like Control-Option-spacebar for me), type in my event details and press Return. No muss, no fuss, its done! Fantastical's natural language engine is expressive and intelligent so I can write in my own style. It will even recognize the location of my event and let me invite people from my Address Book to the event.
The event list and calendar allow me to easily locate and plan all of your events. Color-coding and beautiful design help me quickly make sense of my schedule. I can even change the number of events I want displayed, allowing me to focus on what is important. Just click an event, and the event's important details will be immediately displayed.
More details are available at their website (http://flexibits.com/fantastical) where you can buy this valuable calendar enhancement for $19.99 (also available at the Mac App Store, as well as a free trial version). The brief screencast at their website is very entertaining and helpful.
