Back to School....

Where has the summer gone? August is almost over, school has started, and vacations are now a sweet memory. 

Last month we conducted our special meeting at the Coffee Zone in Jefferson City on iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch Apps. To say it was a hit would be an understatement. The meeting was "standing room only" with lots of participation from the crowd telling about their favorite applications for these magical devices. Many thanks to the proprietor of the Coffee Zone, Taisir Yanis, for hosting us at his fine establishment.

Our next meeting is our special “Back to School” edition which will focus on the Apple’s latest operating system, MacOS 10.7 Lion. I will be presenting the latest features of this new operating system and sharing some tricks and tips about upgrading and making the most of the new features.

Don’t forget to mark your calendar for the next appleJAC Macintosh Users Group meeting on Tuesday, September 6, 2011, at 7:00 pm. Bring family, friends and new members back to Lewis and Clark Middle School to get the most out of your Mac and other Apple products.

Upcoming Meetings

The October meeting will take us into the Clouds. Learn about the new possibilities of cloud computing from Google, Microsoft and other vendors. If all goes well, we will also talk about Apples new iCloud, and see how it compares to the features in the more established contenders . . . it should be a high flying experience.

Be sure to join us for a skyrocketing time on September 6th at 7:00pm.

 

Steve Jobs resigns as Apple CEO but named company chairman

Steve Jobs, the visionary co-founder of Apple Inc. and driving force behind a string of products that revolutionized the consumer-electronics industry, stepped down as chief executive but was named chairman of the board, the company said late Wednesday.

His relinquishing of daily control had been widely anticipated since he took an extended medical leave earlier this year. Jobs, 56, had a liver transplant two years ago and underwent surgery for pancreatic cancer seven years ago.

"I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple's CEO, I would be the first to let you know," he wrote in a letter to the board Wednesday. "Unfortunately, that day has come."

appleJAC MUG on JCTV

"Capital City Matters" released a new half hour segment about the appleJAC Macintosh Users Group. This show was hosted by John Landwehr who interviews guests Tom Piper and George Kopp.

In the lively discussion about the roots and concepts of this computer club, topics covered included the early "cult" days when appleJAC started in late 1984, differences from PC technology, the evolution of Apple's products, and great deal more. Additional shows about Apple products a anticipated for the future.
